1. When I was younger, I was obsessed with Spiderman. He wasn’t like any of the other superheroes, and I admired this diamond-in-the-rough charm about him. He was the friendly neighborhood Spiderman. While Captain America’s scope was an entire country and Iron Man was an international Billionaire -Mogul turned superhero, Spiderman was an everyday high schooler who spent his time protecting his community. 2. When spider man finally got access to resources (new suits, mentorship from Iron-man, and a newfound community of allies), at the end of the day he still went back to his community and served his people with a new worldview and purpose. 3. I hope to transfer to University to embody my inner-spiderman. For the past 2.5 years, I have challenged every viewpoint and tried to make sense of our ever-evolving world. The University of Auckland provided me a haven to learn about myself and my academic views, get mentored by the most heartful and personal faculty, and refining my motivation for my studies. 4. I’ve become a more empathetic and understanding individual, which really centered my motivations to not only gain the worldly skills to become more like the people that will mentor me, but also help disenfranchised communities that will connect me with. 5. I hope to study not only the what but the why behind machine learning. This requires a liberal-arts education that involves understanding the technical and the cognitive / social understanding behind the 4th industrial revolution. 6. I want to leverage research labs to conduct interdisciplinary research and provide a social impact-based lens through which to view our research. 7. gives me not only the ability to be taught, but to be mentored. I am excited to engage with peers who will challenge my thought process and to learn from professors who will not only teach me their craft, but their intrinsic motivations for their research.
