The government of the Kingdom of Hawai‘i was overthrown in 1893 with the aide of U.S. military forces. This historical event not disputed by many, though there are those who argue over whether. Or not the U.S. involvement in the overthrow was intentional and unlawful/illegal. Certainly at issue in scholarly debates surrounding the history of 19th century Hawai‘i the extent to which western powers imposed their will upon the people of Hawai‘i prior to the overthrow. Thus the question remains for many (and now for you): Did Hawai‘i colonized by Euro-Americans and/or their agents during the 19thcentury?
