Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) represent large volume (>0.1 Mkm3; frequently above >1 Mkm3), mainly mafic (- ultramafic) magmatic events that are not associated with ‘normal’ tectonic processes such as mid-ocean ridge spreading or subduction.
