Overview It is important to find a museum, choose a date you will go to the museum, and put it on your calendar as soon as possible. It is incredibly important that you plan this event ahead of time. You must also include proof that you attended for credit (either a picture of yourself with your chosen work of art, or a picture of your ticket stub). If you choose the museum option, you must visit one of the following museums: The Detroit Institute of the Arts (which is one of the top Art Museums in the country) The University of Michigan Art Museum The Flint Institute of the Arts The Toledo Art Museum The Eli Broad Art Museum Cranbrook Art Museum Your Art Museum Project must be a minimum of 3 fully-typed pages (not including embedded images), follow MLA formatting (double-spaced, Times New Roman 12pt font, one-inch margins), include proof that you attended for credit (either a picture of yourself with your chosen work of art, or a picture of your ticket stub), and all of the following: Introduction. Provide the following: Date, time, place and name of the museum you visited Which galleries did you visit, did you see any special exhibits? Describe your overall thoughts and experience at the art museum. What collections did you see, which did you like, were there any that you did not like? Explain fully. Overview of one work of art. Include the following: The name of the art work The name of the artist, and when he/she lived The year it was created What is it made out of? Picture of chosen work Research about your chosen work of art. Clearly identify the following: Is this a Western or non-Western work of art? What art period and/or culture does it come from? What is the subject matter/iconography? What elements of art does it use (line, color, perspective, depth, texture, form, and shape)? What else can you find out about the artist who created it, the culture it comes from and/or what was going on in history at the same time? Conclusion Summarize your main points. How has studying art this semester impacted your experience with the visual arts? Be sure to cite all of your sources in a bibliography using MLA style. Note: You must include either a copy of your ticket stub or a picture of yourself at the museum for credit. Art Museum Paper Checklist Is your paper a minimum of 3 fully-typed pages, not including embedded images? Is your paper in MLA format (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, etc.)? Is your paper well-written, with clear sentences and well-developed paragraphs? Does your paper address all of the required information asked for above? Did you include a bibliography in MLA format at the end of your paper? Did you include a picture of your ticket stub, program, or photograph of yourself at the museum?
