1. Begin with the corporate parent in the top box on the next page – precisely identify the name of the corporate entity (e.g. for Volkswagen, it is Volkswagen AG who is the corporate parent or for Tesla it is Tesla, Inc.). You should then give a brief narrative on the corporate parent on the final page – for example, this may include: details on the executive team; how the firm is run or organized; business units managed; where it is headquartered; where it is traded and under what ticker symbol; what major changes it has undergone in recent times, etc. It is extremely helpful to leverage the resources on the table in section III (above). When doing so, please cite all resources to add rigor to your analysis. Then, provide a brief narrative on this level in the corresponding box. 2. Then, list the different business units under the corporate umbrella (e.g. for Volkswagen AG you would insert business unit examples such as Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Škoda and Volkswagen). If your firm has a lot of businesses, you can narrow it down to the main five or six in order to fit in the graphic but should still list all the BUs in a notes section or appendix. You should then give a brief narrative regarding the business units on the final page. You may select a narrow range of business units to discuss or give a holistic overview into each of the firm’s business units. Many of the tasks in this class will be at a business unit level – hence, the orange box in the graphic will correspond to the business unit you will carry out this level of analysis on. Then, provide a brief narrative on this level in the corresponding box. 3. After you have mapped the corporate and business levels, take one of the business units and provide some sample functions within that entity (e.g. for Lamborghini you might list: research and development, manufacturing, engineering, marketing and sales, human resource management, service and support, logistics and supply chain, etc.). You need only build out one business unit’s functional-level examples. Then, provide a brief narrative on this level in the corresponding box.
