In addition to acquainting students with the musicians and musical features that define important styles and genres of popular music, lectures will situate musical developments within broader social contexts of race, class, gender, politics, and economics. Through the lectures and readings students will also acquire knowledge of and familiarity with a range of methodologies and theoretical approaches for studying popular music. Also, how influential could the music be in a society? Can the music determine trend social aspects? Music means a lot in a society, it could be inspired in a society or inspire an entire society. It might be the cause or the consequence of some changes in the society.
