2nd version – promotion proposal

Paper details:

This is a personal statement to apply for promotion to be associate professor. I’m a vascular neurologist working in academic center. I will attach an example to review. Under research, I participate in many trials: CHARM study, CREST 2, ARCADIA,SATURN,Sleep Smart as co-investigator.

Under teaching:

I provide education, lectures to students, fellows and residents. I provide education in both inpatient and outpatient setting. As a subspecialist in the field of neurology with expertise stroke. I have the unique opportunity to provide students with both general and highly specific knowledge.A significant portion of this teaching occurs in the context of the Neurology Ward Services and Outpatient Clinics as well as during interpretation of neuro-imaging.In these settings, I oversee medical students and residents at various levels of training. It is gratifying to see the students gain more knowledge and confidence as the year progresses.

 

Under service/outreach; Clinical: serving as an attending covering the stroke service inpatient, ED and consult for 16-18 weeks/year. I’m one of 4 neurologist who serves as members of the Banner University medical Center Comprehensive Stroke Center. In this role, I help to maintain the certification for the stroke comprehensive center, provide education to other department like ED, neurosurgery. I’m also one of 4 neurologist who serve stoke clinic.In such role, seeing the stroke patients, provide education to the residents and fellows in an outpatient setting. As part of the Comprehensive Stroke Program, I’m in charge of Interdisciplinary stroke conferences held once/month. Our program participates in Get with the Guidelines -Stoke which is the American Heart Association’s collaborative performance improvement program to measure improvements in adherence to evidence-based care of patients hospitalized with stroke. Under our leadership and through faculty, resident, nursing and staff education and dedication, we have attained the highest level of care for our stroke patients and recently attained Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification through the Joint Commission.

 

I was just recently became a member of nominating committee.

 

Outreach:

I have consistently promoted my research, the department and the institution through outside lectures and the media. My multiple lectures and interviews etc. are listed in my Curriculum vitae. These include service to the community via education regarding identifying and modifying stroke risk factors to reduce the incidence and disability associated with acute stroke.. In addition, our stroke clinic provide a stroke support group that is held at our outpatient clinic to help support our stroke survivors and their loved ones. . I have served as a facilitator for this organized support group and look forward to doing so again in the months to come.
